Storyboard In Progress

So I have started my storyboard, below is a picture of what I have achieved so far. This screenshot shows the first 25 seconds worth of footage. From this screenshot you can see the level of detail I am going into to make it easier for me to go straight out and film.

Woodkid Official Music Video

This is the first establishing shot of the music video is shows that it is set in an isolated place with the moutains in the background. I really like the way that they have used black and white to make it more dramatic. I think the use of black and white helps to fit with the dramatic music.
Here they have used a long shot to show the main protagonist in an open empty place. I think that this helps to show the loneliness and the dark background colour shows danger and its almost as if there is a shadow over the main protagonist making it harder to see the whole figure.

They have used a close up of the main protagonist this helps to emphasise the emotion and the fear in the main protagonist face makes the video more moving. I want to take this idea when I am filming, I think that a shot like this will help to emphasise the fear going through the main protagonist.
This is a shot to show what the main protagonist is running from/with. I think that this really helps to tell the story and give the narrative meaning.

They have used light colours to show the goal of where the little boy is running to. I think the use of the white and black showing the good and bad is really effective.

Woodkid- Run Boy Run lyrics

Run boy run! This world is not made for you
Run boy run! They’re trying to catch you
Run boy run! Running is a victory
Run boy run! Beauty lays behind the hills

Run boy run! The sun will be guiding you
Run boy run! They’re dying to stop you
Run boy run! This race is a prophecy
Run boy run! Break out from society

Tomorrow is another day
And you won’t have to hide away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!

Run boy run! This ride is a journey to
Run boy run! The secret inside of you
Run boy run! This race is a prophecy
Run boy run! And disappear in the trees

Tomorrow is another day
And you won’t have to hide away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!

Tomorrow is another day
And when the night fades away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!

From looking at the lyrics I have decided that I really want to emphasize the word run, so I am going to make the video like a chase sequence so you will have the main protagonist running away from something.

Run Boy Run Music Video Ideas

Here are some ideas that i have generated on pinterest this shows some of the shots that i want to use and some of the costume ideas. I might use the idea of the red cape so that it captures the element of danger and if the rest of the video is in black and white and then only showing the red of the cape this will help to emphasize the danger but it will also draw the viewers attention to the main protagonist. I also like the idea of filming in a wood because as you can see from some of the photographs above the woods make the shots look isolated and alone. I think that in my music video I will use some long shots so that it really puts in to perspective how alone the main protagonist is. Furthermore I think that the use of powder paint like the photograph with the ballerina is very effective and really creates a statement to the photo.

Adele - Someone Like You

Although this music video isn't exactly what I was looking for their is a few things that I thing I could use in order to create my music video. I really like the way they have made the whole video black and white I think that it makes it more dramatic and although its not a very high contrast it still makes the shots look isolated and alone which is the look I am going for. Also by not having the bright vibrant colours it allows you to concentrate more on what is happening in each shot. Another feature that I liked in this video is the camera shots for example they have some really good extreme close ups that allows the viewer to look closely at the emotion on the protagonists face which can make the video more emotional and give off a better effect.

Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

The screenshot above shows the powder bouncing off of the drum, this is the effect that i want to use in the drumming sequence. I want to use clips that are the normal speed and then slow the clip down so that you can really see the paint fly in different directions.
This shot above is one that i would like to include in my music video, it shows the emotion of the eyes and i think that it adds a more dramatic feel to it. I think that if the character is looking around in this close up shot it shows fear and shows the character is lost/ helpless.

Macklemore x Ryan Lewis- Wings Music Video

The next music video that I looked at was Macklemore and Ryan Lewis "Wings" music video. It was definatly a lot different from all the other music videos that I had looked at but their were aspects that I really liked within the music video.
The title for the music video followed the same design as the "Oblivion" music video by Bastille. They both used bold white writing on dark low key lighting scenes. I really like the way that they have create this and I think that it is very effective and I really want to use this idea in my music video.
In the shot above they have played around with the focus and I really like the idea that the foreground is very clear and the figure in the background is very blurry.  When I start my shot list I want to play around with the focus and see if I can create a similar shot like they have done here.
In this music video they have used low key lighting to create an atmosphere which is what I want to try out on my music video. I think that the right lighting in a music video is key because it creates an atmosphere. For my video I want to use low key lighting as I want the video to be very dramatic and slightly dark as its sort of reflecting a nightmare.
The lighting on the main protagonists face is really good in the shot above because its creating mystery.
I really like the way that they have used a close up shot on the feet showing the activity in the video, they have also made it slow motion so that you can see the rain more clearly. This helps set the scene of a wet day on the basketball court showing the love for the game and the dedication they are putting in.

Furthermore the way that they split the video up some of it black and white some of it coloured is very interesting and I may use this when creating my music video.
I like the way they are using a book as a prop as though they are telling the story while its happening. I think because my video is to do with nightmares and running from the darkness, and the idea that the main protagonist will have a red cape like little red riding hood then I may play around with having some scenes with a book as a prop.
Overall I really like this music video it has a very nice storyline and its very clear to see whats going on. There are a few ideas from this music video such as the half black and white and half colour film that I would like to use. Another thing that I want to try out is the idea of having a book as a prop as though the main protagonist is telling a story. Furthermore I like some of the shots that they use within this music video such as the close up on the feet that is in slow motion, I think this makes it really powerful and interesting.
